Style Muses- Music Video Edition

Hello and welcome to the third installment of MDM Style Muses! For this episode, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my rendition of Taylor Swift's You Need to Calm Down music video!

I've been a huge TS fan ever since her inaugural album release way back in my preteen days, and her sense of style is so covetable! I love how she incorporates vintage, Old-Hollywood-esque glam into her looks without it being theme-y (except where intended!) while still tapping into that glitzy, rockstar-cool edge (courtesy of reputation).  I've had a thing lately for retro swimsuits and kitschy trailer park vibes, so it seemed only fitting that I style a shoot after one of her best vids ever: You Need to Calm Down

I got the idea really late a few nights ago (as it always seems to go with me, ideas tend to flow at the most inconvenient of times) and instantly things started falling into place. For a little summer fun that was only partially useless since our town home doesn't actually have a yard (but my mom does so it's kinda okay), I purchased some of the most instagrammable accessories on the market: a Minnidip tufted kiddie pool, confetti pool ring, and iridescent confetti beach ball. Armed with my blush-and-sparkly goods, I combed through my closet for the remaining pieces to the pretty puzzle. Once I selected my wardrobe, carefully (and messily) did my hair, and set up the inflatables on the AstroTurf rug on our large patio, we were ready for action.

Since covering the whole music video was a stretch in the time, space, money, and sanity realms, I stuck to my favorite scene: the one where Taylor is floating in an oversized lawn pool wearing a fabulously plush faux fur coat and contrasting blingy sunglasses while cooly sipping on a spritzer. (Fun fact- I actually ordered the same sunglasses she wore in the video, just in a different color, because why not be authentic?) See below for the result of my late night planning, hair curling, and profuse sweating in a furry jacket in August (and a sneak peek behind the scenes!):

Despite the effort and aforementioned borderline-heatstroke, I am so stoked about the results! Music video style is so fun to steal because it's often outlandish, dreamy, and tells a story. I mean, at the end of the day, why get dressed if you're not getting those good vibes? Sometimes a dose of magic is worth the effort to wave the wand! So have fun creating your own inspired looks; I can't wait to see what you come up with! Stay tuned for the next episode of MDM Style Muses!
